The Ketogenic or Keto diet has gotten A LOT of media coverage in the last few years. I decided to follow up my original Keto video with one where I actually try out the diet for myself.

I was not surprised that the keto diet was difficult to stick to because of the restrictive nature of it. However, the weight loss and other benefits were definitely noticed and fairly early on into the diet.

If you have an idea of something you want me to cover in depth, please let me know because I take your requests seriously. We will be back with more Medical Drama Review Series this Sunday so please submit more names of shows/episodes you’d like for me to watch. Love you all!

  1. Honesty all you have to do to lose weight is eat only lean meats, veggies, fruits and lots of water. Absolutely no bread, tortillas, sugar, starchy foods. I’m on my 4th week and down 23lbs. I average around 1200-1600 calories per day. ZERO exercise. I’m naturally well built and have a lot of muscle mass though, so probably burn a lot more than the average person.

  2. This is so cool! First time seeing it and I’m 24 days into keto now. I’m a big momma so goal weight loss is 150 lb. 💜

  3. People should stop promoting the keto diet, it’s not a diet anyone should adhere to without doctor supervision. Everybody should eat a balanced diet and that includes carbs. For me, the *Agoge diet* plan worked wonders, I no longer have visible cellulite and lost significant amounts of fat.

  4. 30 days of KETO is not enough. In the starting phase you are not yet fat adapted, which is why you tire easily. That changes after about 30 days, which is when you ended your challenge.

  5. Instead of eliminating carbs, and massively increasing fat intake, why not just burn the carbs, exercise till you use up glycogen stores.

  6. Again, once you are fat adapted you are not going to be starved in the morning. In fact you would be less hungry or not need breakfast at all.

  7. Only the Agoge diet worked for me, I lost so much fat and feel great. Keto just made me tired.

  8. true , the keto help to lose 35 Kg , in only 3 months and half , i train all the days , is very very effectiv but … plis consume supplements , VIt and other or chek you DOC First.

  9. Keto has been shown to be unhealthy in numerous studies, especially without doctor supervision. The *Agoge diet* was the only diet that helped me lose that stubborn fat without punishing my body.

  10. I did keto for nine months out of desperation because I was so ill and my quality of life was awful. Keto improved everything that was wrong with me. However, I went carnivore less than a month ago and so far two issues have been totally resolved, whereas keto only improved them. I seriously doubt you will see a comment on an old video, but if you do I challenge you to try carnivore for 30 days. Although I will say that anyone who is already healthy won’t notice the benefits so drastically, for keto or carnivore. But you should still see some benefits. But … carnivore does cause diarrhea at first. Most people say the first two weeks. I’ve had chronic diarrhea for almost a decade (and nothing so far works to cure it) so I can’t really speak to this side effect of carnivore because I already had that issue. I’m really hoping that carnivore is the thing that finally fixes it. Things I’ve tried so far are, probiotics, quitting sugar and gluten (prior to keto), quitting all dairy and caffeine when I started carnivore, plus taking lots of Pepto and Imodium. If anyone reads this wish me luck that carnivore will fix it.

  11. I mean… it takes months for the body to first get fat adapted. Which is different than being ketone adapted.

  12. I find this so interesting. Your experience was very different from mine. Almost reverse. I’ve been doing keto for a week and the first few days were HARD. I was hungry, I had cravings, I wanted snacks. Now after a week I don’t feel hungry at all, my energy is way up. Though I guess part of that is if my body is using fat for energy, I got a lot to spare…

  13. I am actually on Keto/low carb/ S side of meals rn…😁
And i SO KNOW WHAT you mean by "bored eat". It’s good for me though.

  14. My aunt has done keto for over 3 years. She’s become eating disordered because of it. The potential weight loss appeal is intriguing for me to want to do keto.. however this would make my own eating disorder worse. I haven’t seen anyone succeed on keto. Not once. I see it cause more eating disordered behaviors than anything. I would like to see his opinion on how these diets actually can cause and worsen disorders for people.

  15. I don’t understand how Keto is supposed to be healthy. Only eating fatty meat doesn’t sound like it’s good for you.

  16. When I was eating refined carbs and sugar my shits where huge, runny and stunk. When I went on a low carb, Zero sugar diet my shits got much better so this is bollocks

  17. I eat a little ground beef or chicken bread sometimes
But I do not like meat , but I love veggies

    Keto is not for me

  18. Doing keto right now, pre pre diabetic. Grandmas and parents have it, so yeah taking it seriously. I miss my bread, tortillas, beans, rice and cherries 😭. This diet is even harder as a Hispanic.

  19. wait you have to cut sugar? i put almost two spoons of sugar in my pure coffee and sometimes i eat some candys my friends give me.

  20. Does the USDA recommend a keto diet in their Dietary Recommendations? I thought Dietary Recommendations suggested about 30-35% of calories from day. Is USDA wrong?

  21. Want to get past all the sponsor sad stuff and onto what u loved on for
    Thank me later
    Love the video

  22. I was under the impression that liquor, like whiskey, vodka, gin etc themselves though made from complex carb sources like barley and wheat, are not actually carb rich after being processed… all sources I’ve read say that hard liquor consumed solely will NOT dampen Ketosis. Is this not the case Dr.Mike? also, I stick to tequila as its not produced from a polysaccaride source, but a green tequila cactus… I’d appreciate your input 🙂 Thank you!

  23. Yeah this wasn’t your best review Doc…
For example the cat food lunch thing?! I’m confused… you could have had the salad!!!! Nothing wrong with that .. it’s not all bacon / sausages / cheese etc..
would have loved to see you making proper recipes.. looked like you were against it from the start!

  24. I just wanna express my gratitude to Dr Alaho Olu on YouTube for curing my HSV 1&2. God will bless you..

  25. I know that it’s been awhile since this video aired, but, would you be interested in trying a vegan keto/low carb challenge? 🤣 So far I’ve lost about 45 pounds since the end of April through current (about 3.5 months). On workout days, I stick to low carb, not keto because I workout a lot.

  26. Keto is all about eliminating sugar and high glycemic carbs from your diet. It is not necessarily all about high fat. You are supposed to eat healthy fats. I have been on a keto diet for a year now and have lost 86 lbs. My calories are between 1400 and 1500 a day-137 grams of protein, 104 grams of fat, 20 net carbs. That is not 75% fat. You can have a cookies and creme shake if you want-they make protein shakes in all sorts of flavors. Granted, I did miss bread and sugar at first but you get used to it. Some days I will eat more meat than others, some days, I will eat a big salad (I do not count greens in my carbs)-no croutons, but you can have some crispy bacon bits on it and a good homemade salad dressing. Some days I eat more eggs, and some days I have meal replacement shakes along with those other things. I am 73 years old and know that I need to work on some weights to build muscle but I will get to that. When I reach maintenance weight, I will slowly add things like lentils, black beans, brown rice but to be honest I do not crave those things. I do not care for fruit-I prefer veggies and I get plenty of those in the form of broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, kale, romaine lettuce, and avocados. Plus I drink tons of water and electrolytes. The main thing is to give up the sugar and white flour.

  27. The *Agoge diet* is a much better option than keto. It’s well structured, balanced and peronalized. Keto is just unhealthy and very tough to follow.

  28. Hmm, 75% fat? What is point of dieting then? About vlcd-diets at ketosis are optimally 5-600kcal from vlcds and enought proteins from all sorts of non carb stuff. Also first keto month full today with 25lbs lost weight. Still 3 more to go….

  29. Did he do any research? Clearly he has symptoms of keto flu, probably low in electrolytes and Vit C. Doesn’t help that he’s already lean. I’ve noticed Keto is very effective for people who are very overweight.
